News Release Leading Club Groups Highlight AFIRM Seminars in DCMerritt, TSI, Sport & Health, MAC, Columbia Assn. Add Expertise to Already Strong Wellness, Military, & Retail Educational Components
SILVER SPRING, MD (May 1, 2011) – AFIRM, the Association of Fitness Industry Retailers & Manufacturers, announced today additional details of its educational seminar schedule for the second AFIRM Showcase Tour event, June 6-7 at the Marriott Inn & Conference Center, adjacent to the University of Maryland campus, in Hyattsville, MD. Over 35 seminars, panel discussions, and presentations cover a wide range of relevant business topics for all types of athletic, fitness, wellness facilities and personnel. Not the least of these categories are traditional health clubs. “We’ve made great strides in a half-dozen key vertical markets,” said AFIRM executive director Chuck Leve. “But we don’t want to lose sight of traditional athletic facilities that sell memberships for they are one of the core markets of AFIRM members. We are building on that strength.” Evidence of such growth is the inclusion of key executives from the major club organizations from the Mid-Atlantic region, including:
The agenda also features nationally renowned speakers including Sandy Coffman, Kevin Steele, Casey Conrad, Jason Conviser, Donna Krech, and Dave Pickering – all of whom have incredibly strong messages for traditional athletic facilities. “Companies that choose to exhibit with us will have the rare opportunity of spending quality time with key executives from major organizations from many vertical markets,” said Leve. “Traditional athletic facilities will be a substantial element at the event, but by no means exclusive.” Additional educational sessions are geared toward facilities and personnel from:
The full agenda, including topics and speakers can be seen on www.afirmfitness.org. This is the second stop on the AFIRM Fitness Showcase Tour, which made its successful debut in Atlanta in February. Supporting companies include ABC Financial, ACE, Cybex, FMI, Life Fitness, Mad Dogg, Netsertive, Polar, SFIC, SPRI, Technogym, Twin Oaks, and Vitabot with additional companies signing on weekly. The Showcase is an intimate, regional setting where attendees can learn about the latest fitness/wellness products and services, have one-on-one time with AFIRM member companies, and network with their peers in a fun, yet professional environment. Admission for the Showcase Tour is only $99 – a fee for each business address, meaning any organization (a gym, retailer, etc.) may bring as many attendees as it wishes for $99. Exhibitors will be provided a supply of $50 discount vouchers to help encourage their targeted customers to attend. This makes the Showcase Tour a terrific value when compared to the typical investment businesses must make to take two or three people to a big, national tradeshow. The AFIRM Showcase event is accessible, educational, efficient, and stimulating for business. About AFIRM The Association of Fitness Industry Retailers & Manufacturers (AFIRM) is dedicated to developing benefits, products, and services specifically for fitness industry manufacturers and retailers. Created in 2009 by the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA), AFIRM addresses fitness industry issues, helps raise revenue and reduce expenses on behalf of its members, lobbies Congress for pro-fitness legislation, and develops appropriate research. AFIRM disseminates information through educational events, webinars, its website, and develops money-saving programs for its members. Before AFIRM, retailers and manufacturers had never been represented with a unified voice working on their behalf. For more information, please visit www.afirmfitness.org. # # #
